May 30, 2014 – PinnacleART teamed up with Mae Smythe Elementary School in the Pasadena Independent School District to kick off the first annual Armed Forces Care Package Drive in celebration of Memorial Day. Mae Smythe began their annual Memorial Day Celebration about 5 years ago to remind students of the brave heroes who are the reason for this national holiday. This year PinnacleART approached Mae Smythe with the idea for the Armed Forces Care Package Drive, and Mae Smythe gladly accepted the opportunity to add the initiative to their annual Memorial Day activities.
On Friday, May 23rd, Mae Smythe music teachers Angela Reid and Ryan Fountain directed students and veterans in a musical celebration of the freedom we have because of the sacrifices of our fallen heroes in the armed forces. Representatives from PinnacleART, Angela Carrillo and Shaquille Edward, attended the program, and along with teacher Chris Cabana, introduced the project and challenged students and staff to donate the needed items.
PinnacleART also collected donations at all their facilities, and employees joined students at Mae Smythe on Friday, May 30th to assemble and ship the care packages. Each package includes letters and pictures from students, reminding soldiers overseas that they are remembered back home. PinnacleART employees held a bake sale at their Pasadena offices to help pay the costs to send the packages, and the company offered to pay the balance of the shipping costs.
PinnacleART is a proud partner of several schools in the Pasadena Independent School District, participating in a variety of projects to support education in the community where we live and work.
