The top 5% of performers in the mining sector benchmarked behind well-run refineries’ reliability programs according to a recent Reliability Web study.

Facilities in the mining industry are responsible for meeting internal and external regulatory requirements and ensuring the safety of their employees and surrounding communities, all while balancing performance and cost. This challenge comes with increased labor and material costs, planned and unplanned downtime, and poor life-cycle decisions—leading to inefficiencies in production and spend.

Oftentimes, various point-initiatives are introduced (in both newly constructed and brownfield facilities) in attempt to balance these drivers and gain improvements. While well intentioned, the point-initiatives often fail to achieve the desired results and every year, facilities lose millions because of unplanned downtime and non-value-add maintenance and inspection activities. To truly gain sustainable improvements, solving root causes of problems requires multi-faceted, rather than single-point solutions.

Problems With Typical Reliability Initiatives:

  • Not Value Driven
  • Overlap One Another
  • Siloed
  • Not Properly Implemented
  • Poor Quality
  • Lack Management of Change

PinnacleART's Reliability Solution

PinnacleART has transformed the way our industry approaches reliability and mechanical integrity challenges. We believe every project should have an end-goal and a clear path of how to reach that goal. Our tailored solutions focus solely on identifying and closing gaps as effectively and efficiently as possible. This approach is composed of three steps.

Identify

PinnacleART begins by identifying performance opportunities for both lost production and maintenance spend across plants, units, and/or equipment types. During this step, PinnacleART will provide benchmarks to peers in both cost and reliability breakout KPIs. Using the programmatic and equipment-specific root causes to the performance gaps identified in step one, we then build an improvement plan and prioritize quick wins that will close both the spending and lost production gaps. This plan includes ensuring proper buy-in from both leadership and frontline users to ensure commitment through full rollout and adoption.

Improve

PinnacleART’s project teams execute the improvement plan, utilizing the horsepower and expertise of roughly 1,000 people and the efficiencies of an array of in-house implementation tools. The result is an efficiently implemented improvement plan and minimal use of site resources (we only use site resources when it is essential to gain crucial data and/or ensure buy-in for program adoption).

PinnacleART is software agnostic and we provide implementation, conversion, and upkeep of industry-leading asset performance management systems. To date, we have completed more than 250 implementations in various platforms.

Sustain

Sustaining programmatic improvements is critical to getting the full value from the efforts. We find facilities will invest millions into their programs but struggle to maintain their investments. To the degree required, PinnacleART can become a long-term reliability partner, with support ranging from annual audits and benchmarking to day-to-day condition monitoring/inspection and reliability engineering. At the end of the day, the goal is to keep the facility performing at a best-in-class level in regard to overall operational availability and to optimize maintenance and inspection spend.
